Revolution: Praying Like Your Life Depended on It

October 23, 2016 Speaker: Joe Walser Series: Revolution: Sermon on the Mount

Topic: Biblical Passage: Matthew 6:5–6:13

Matthew 6:5-13

When we pray, we tend to pray "Fix it! But your will be done"

Context of the prayer, within the sermon of the mount:

1.) We try to climb the ladder of trying to define us and self worth
- darkness, death
- Your own righteousness, which falls short
2.) Living under grace through faith
- light, life
- Jesus' righteousness given to us
- Psalms 19:12
- We are not a good judge on our need of salvation
- The Word of God shows us our need of salvation

Our Father in heaven - Matthew 6:9
- We may think heaven is far away, thus God is far, but heaven means 'airy', God is near
- Hebrews 10:19-22
- Hebrews 4:16
- Hebrews 11:6
- God is our Father
- Romans 8:12-16
- Romans 8:37-39
- OUR father - community (local church)
Hallowed by your name
- infinite holiness
- We were made to look upon God's glory
- "We are glory junkies" - Paul Tripp
Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven - Matthew 6:10
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. - Matthew 6:11-13

Challenge:
